Therapist Burnout – What It (Really) Is and What We Can Do About It
Watch the video to hear what Cece shares about her new workshop on therapist burnout.
Being an IFS therapist
Being a therapist is fascinating, rewarding, and sometimes quite challenging. For IFS clinicians, however, there is an important added benefit – we work collaboratively, looping in client Self-energy as an active partner in the process.
Yet, I hear therapists tell me they often feel overwhelmed, work long hours, and are really tired. Is this ‘normal’? Is it okay? Is it harmful?
Self-led compassion
In this experiential workshop, we will discuss signs of compassion fatigue and burnout, discovering how our parts view the parameters of therapist responsibility and the intersection of our needs with our clients. Through lectures, discussions, experiential exercises, small groups, and live demo, we will connect with others in our community to explore effective, self-led compassion – for clients and for ourselves.

Feeling Overwhelmed by Your Work?
During “An IFS Lens on Therapist Burnout”, we will:
Learn new definitions of compassion fatigue, burnout, and self-care through the IFS model of the inner and outer world.
Identify and connect with the unique needs of therapist parts, building strong inner relationships with them.
Recognize protectors that have become over-responsible or caretaking, prioritizing others’ needs over their own.
Identify and connect with exiles related to these protectors and understand their burdened beliefs.
Explore family legacy burdens and gifts, including those related to patriarchy, capitalism/individualism, and gender roles.
Healing Therapist Burnout Through Parts Work
This workshop will focus on reconnecting therapists with gifts and burdens that led them into this field and how their parts are handling the work now. Participants will explore parts developed in early family relationships and how personal struggles impact our professional choices.
We will also explore how our role as professional listeners impacts our attunement to our own inner world and tending to our exiles. What is happening to the very busy protectors if they don’t remember how to take a ‘step back’ and rest?
Deepen your relationship with the protectors
This workshop will guide therapists to explore and build deeper relationship with the protectors who learned how to focus and attune externally as well as to vulnerable exiles that absorbed early messages about responsibility, sacrifice and striving.
Through lecture, journaling, small group sharing, experiential exercises and demo the participants will deepen their appreciation of the ‘heart lessons’ of their individual journeys, resourcing their inner worlds and reinvigorating connections to self-energy and unique wisdom.
Satisfaction Guarantee
If you’re not fully satisfied after attending the first day of our 2-day online workshop, simply let us know before the second session begins, and we’ll offer a full refund—no questions asked.
Completion of IFS Level 1 Training is not required
At the same time, you need to know the fundamentals of IFS, as we don’t offer basic didactics about the model during this workshop.
Make sure that you:
- Have completed a thorough introductory course/workshop about IFS or the IFSI Online Circle,
- Have a desire to embody the IFS Model – deepen the knowledge of your own system, and learn tools that aid you in this process.
