Addictive and compulsive practices
Feeling ‘addicted’ to social media, crime shows, overworking, overspending or nightly sweets, cannabis or drinks are common complaints. Stress escalates when clients find out they can’t quit – what does this mean?
Other clients engage in behaviors that are more compulsive, suffering from heavy drinking/drug use, disordered eating, gambling or sexually compulsive activity.
Some end one behavior only to ‘trade addictions’ and find another. This workshop offers a helpful, clear paradigm shift that clinically addresses these stressful issues and offers clear compassionate interventions.

The healing potential of IFS
IFS therapy is uniquely suited to helping therapists work in collaboration with their clients to discover the positive intentions behind negative behavior, untangling inner chaos and providing safe access to exiled trauma or attachment wounds.
In this experiential workshop we will apply the IFS model to intervening effectively with both high and low-risk addictive processes, learning how to track and build solid internal connections and provide safe access to exiles.

Types of practice
During “Compassion for Addictive Process: An IFS Lens” series you will:
Be able to identify and track addictive processes and how they are maintained in the system.
Learn safe interventions for identifying and working with addictive process polarizations and extreme protectors.
Learn how to help reduce resistance and invite clients to invest in the process.
Be able to identify how extreme managers impact the healing process and how to connect safely with exiles.

Experiential activities
Please note that the teacher will respond to the needs of the group and because of that, the chosen activities may change
Guided meditations
Guided meditation is an internal practice that you do with closed eyes, following the teacher’s voice. The teacher will invite you to sit back, relax, and focus on your inner world. You will meet your parts, talk to them, and often learn things you weren’t aware of before. Guided meditation can allow you to do a significant piece of inner work.

Q&A sessions
Each of the workshops will have space for questions from the audience. If you buy a recording of the workshop, you will have access to the recording of the Q&A session that took place live during the workshop.
Personal practice (ex. journalling)
Personal practice means working on your own, usually with a piece of paper, after hearing the instructions explained by the teacher. These exercises may be various – sometimes you will be invited to communicate with your parts by journalling, sometimes you will do a drawing exercise (like mapping your parts). Other times you will get a more complex set of instructions and 10 or 15 minutes to do a piece of the process on your own.

Demo sessions
These are session demonstrations in which the teacher does a live session with a volunteer. It may be a short, role-played session or a whole, longer session. Sometimes teachers show videos of sessions they recorded in the past.
