Self, Parts, and IFS Steps – It’s not exactly what you think!
These are the core elements of the IFS model, but there’s so much more to know and understand about them before we can really make the most out of this wonderful model. In this workshop, we will explore what these concepts truly mean, and you will:
Rethink what it really means to be “in Self”—and whether it’s always the right goal.
Uncover the subtle, often misunderstood relationship between Self and parts—and why trying to minimize parts might not help at all.
Deepen your understanding of unblending—not just how to do it, but why it sometimes doesn’t work.
Explore why the IFS Protocol may feel rigid—and how to follow it without losing attunement, safety, or flow.
Receive practical insights and guidance to overcome common stuck points in your IFS practice—both with clients and within yourself.
See how Self, parts, and unblending are not separate skills—but deeply intertwined aspects of the healing process.
See what Einat has to say about the series:

Common stuck points of IFS therapists:
- Many of us believe that we need to be “in Self” in order to do things right, yet often this seems to be a difficult goal to attain. We will explore what “being in Self” really means and whether it is indeed the right goal for us.
- It’s a common belief that there’s a big gap between parts and Self, and that we should keep parts’ presence to a minimum while trying to have as much Self presence as possible, all the time. However, in real life, we find that this concept is too simplistic and often quite unrealistic. We will offer deeper and more useful ways to conceptualize this important IFS notion.
- Unblending is the central action when using IFS, yet there’s so much we don’t fully know and understand about it and about how to do it right. When it “doesn’t work,” we often feel baffled and stuck in the process. We will try to explore the meaning of unblending more deeply, look at the many nuances of it, and hopefully come up with a more useful understanding of it.

Beyond the Checklist: Navigating the IFS Protocol
For many practitioners, the IFS Protocol feels like a list of linear steps that we’re expected to follow in order to achieve the desired transformation and healing (for our clients and ourselves).
Yet, when we perceive it this way, we’re very susceptible to becoming misattuned with our clients, getting stuck, and becoming overwhelmed. In order to avoid this, some prefer to ignore the protocol altogether and just follow their own intuition. The risk here is losing direction, missing some important safety steps, and arriving at exiles either prematurely or never. We will try to offer a different perspective on the protocol, and ways to overcome what seems to challenge you in applying it effectively.
