Polarizations in IFS Therapy
Two things block Self-energy, parts and polarized parts. A requisite skill in IFS is awareness and competence in depolarizing parts. One of the beautiful things about IFS is that it is organic, meaning that it keeps growing and deepening in our systems.
We will be focusing on polarizations on all systems levels to increase understanding of how internal conflicts are reflected in the larger world and how learning to work with polarized parts is also a way to help de-polarize the world.
Explore the Creation and Impact of Polarizations
During this workshop we will deepen our understanding of how polarizations are created, become more extreme, and their function in outer and inner systems.
A developmental model will be presented to understand polarizations as a backlash to growth and change, evolution, and moral development. We will explore polarizations that are legacy burdens: How we’ve internalized our parents' polarization, and how to identify these patterns and unburden them.
Expand your IFS toolbox
During this workshop, you will:
- Explore your own polarizations, both personal and inherited.
- Deepen your ability to identify and work with polarizations.
- Learn the systemic nature of polarizations and the cycles that intensify them.
- Add new tools to your IFS toolbox.
- Expand de-polarizing skills to work with larger systems.
- Learn a developmental model for understanding polarizations.

An essential skill of an IFS therapist
Thinking systemically and becoming comfortable with working with more than one part is an essential skill of an IFS therapist.
During this workshop, we will explore how fear is the base emotion of polarized parts and how becoming an Ambassador involves developing strategies that work to de-polarize and help restore harmony and balance in a system.
Extreme polarizations in the clients' system
We will also delve into the role of therapist parts when working with polarizations. Sometimes, these parts feel an urgent need to resolve polarities in the client’s system. We will explore and understand the IFS perspective on addictive and compulsive behaviors as extreme polarizations.
Come and join us for 2 days of growing and strengthening your ability to identify and work with polarizations.

Ann is a natural teacher. I appreciated the energy and interesting examples
and info that she shares for illustrating various points.
Ann has a wonderful presence. Her teaching style is fun and packed
with knowledge. I loved the visual creativity in her slides and she always guided us
with kindness navigating questions.
I am grateful for her down to earth approach and overall great presence,
especially with acknowledging the fears and concerns of our learner parts.
Completion of IFS Level 1 Training is not required

Make sure that you:
- Have completed a thorough introductory course/workshop about IFS or the IFSI Online Circle,
- Have a desire to embody the IFS Model – deepen the knowledge of your own system, and learn tools that aid you in this process.

A detailed description of experiential activities:
Please note that the teacher will respond to the needs of the group and because of that, the chosen activities may change
-
Demo sessions
These are session demonstrations in which the teacher does a live session with a volunteer. It may be a short, role-played session or a whole, longer session. Sometimes teachers show videos of sessions they recorded in the past.
-
Guided meditations
Guided meditation is an internal practice that you do with closed eyes, following the teacher's voice. The teacher will invite you to sit back, relax, and focus on your inner world. You will meet your parts, talk to them, and often learn things you weren't aware of before. Guided meditation can allow you to do a significant piece of inner work.
-
Sharing and discussions in small groups (usually triads)
We usually do it after guided meditation and/or after personal practice. We go to breakout rooms and meet in small groups (3 or 4 participants) to share our experiences in a safe space. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and deepen the feeling of connection. This activity is optional - you can stay in the main room.
