What is Compassionate Inquiry?

Compassionate Inquiry is a psychotherapeutic method developed by Dr. Gabor Maté that reveals what lies beneath the appearance we present to the world.

Using Compassionate Inquiry, the therapist unveils the level of consciousness, mental climate, hidden assumptions, implicit memories and body states that form the real message that words both express and conceal.

Deep healing and transformation

Through Compassionate Inquiry, the client can recognize the unconscious dynamics that run their lives and how to liberate themselves from them.

Dr. Maté will model the process of Compassionate Inquiry with course participants and instruct therapists in the practice of this powerful technique to help clients access deep healing and transformation.

I think a big part of gaining insight into substance abuse is an examination of its underlying psychological and emotional components. This is at the core of Dr. Mat’és approach.

How it works

The workshop was held live in March 2023.

The whole process has been structured so that you can go through it at any time, at your own pace. Explore almost 9 hours of video material – it’s important that you find the right space to immerse yourself in this process.

The recording contains didactics and demo sessions, so you will be able to do personal work in your own time.

Remember that you get unlimited access to the workshop recordings, which means you will be able to view them in a year or even in a few years.

This workshop series is not a Compassionate Inquiry training course, and Gabor Mate only demonstrates his approach. The official Compassionate Inquiry training opportunities can be found at
www.compassionateinquiry.com.

Opinions about this workshop

I found the workshop extremely informative. The interaction between participants and Dr. Gabor was dynamic and I learned much about my personal life through this. My understanding of the topic of trauma, disease, addiction, and depression was broadened in such a manner that I am more empathic. The application of compassionate inquiry was made practical and brought to life. I learned so much and was pleasantly surprised.

Excellent! I like the way it is broken into the two parts: teaching and demonstration

Full of surprises, compassion and heartfelt insight, totally and absolutely worth doing if you are seeking answers for your own journey, or you are supporting others with theirs

LI

Linda Illsley

I really liked watching the conversations between Gabor and the participants and seeing the process unfold. I also really appreciate the analogies or metaphors that Gabor uses, and his real life experiences to define/explain a term or approach.

A great way to complement the written work of Gabor Mate. The practicals where an inherent part of the journey. It shows how compassionate inquiry can be applied with laser focus to help mental health professionals identify the root cause of their trauma and get them on their healing journey, recognising it as primordial in order to help others. We need to heal ourselves when we are to heal others, with kindness and care.

WP

The depth of Gabor Maté’s words and gaze touched me to the core of my soul. An opening of consciousness and a subtle transformation process started after the workshop. I use the techniques taught in the workshop in my professional practice as a shiatsu practitioner and trainer to enhance my perception of what is not openly revealed. Gabor has created a safe and inclusive training environment where everyone was listened with respect. The one-on-one sessions allowed to make connections between theory and practice. Each participant was able to develop his or her ability to analyze and feel a concrete situation.
