experiential activities:
Navigating the Aftermath of Trauma and Neglect
In surviving trauma and neglect, individuals are left with a host of easily re-activated physiological and emotional responses without an adequate memory record.
Detached from the events that caused them, overwhelming emotions and impulses, intrusive images and memories, chronic expectations of danger, or numbing and disconnection communicate the felt sense that the individual is still in danger, that "it" is still not over.
Mind, Body, Trauma: Bridging Neuroscience and Therapy for Healing
During this workshop, our teacher, Janina Fisher, will review recent neuroscience research that explains how traumatic experience becomes embedded in both mind and body, extending the trauma far beyond the original events.
New neurobiologically-informed somatic techniques directly address the non-verbal memories and physiological responses and can be easily integrated into talking therapies, offering renewed hope to victims of abuse.
