Unique challenges of Complex Trauma
Complex Trauma presents unique challenges to both therapists and their clients. The experience of growing up without safe adults necessarily generates a hyper-vigilant, hyper-reactive protective system to whom “trust” is a word without real meaning.
Befriending these suspicious and often hostile guardians can be a frustrating process, which makes confidence and compassion elusive.
Extreme roles of burdened protectors
This course offers a comprehensible map of this sometimes daunting territory. You will learn how to contract with these well-meaning but burdened protectors and flexible and effective responses to the dissociation, shutdown, self-harm, helplessness, and hopelessness they experience in desperately struggling to maintain an insupportable inner ecology.
With the confidence that we possess the skill set necessary to free these parts from their extreme roles and ally with them in our project of healing, we can remain present while our client’s system gets access to their own resources and discover the joy of secure attachment.
