experiential activities:
The therapeutic relationship in IFS Therapy
During this workshop with Paul Neustadt, we will explore how you can use the therapeutic relationship to facilitate the client’s healing from a part’s perspective.
We will dive deeply into all the essential building blocks constituting the quality of therapeutic relationships, from presence and attunement to the role of the therapist system, common obstacles and challenges, spiritual empowerment, and specific, context-sensitive strategies and solutions.
Creating a safe space
You will learn how to work with the client’s parts that induct the therapist into recreating the original wounding relationship and the very patterns they are struggling to change. You will discover how to use Direct Access to address the client’s unconscious attachment issues and help the client’s parts feel safe enough to relax.
Each session will have a short live demo, sharing in small groups, experiential exercises, questions and answers, opportunities to practice skills, and brief guided meditations.

See what others say about Paul
I have known Paul Neustadt for over 12 years. I have been a student of his and on his training staff for at least five programs. Paul is a gifted teacher. His presentations have a clarity and accessibility that is greatly appreciated. Each point builds on the next in a way that is clear and easily understood by the participants. I have seen many, many demonstrations Paul has done, which of course show the model but also bring healing and transformation to the “client” in the demo.
Jim Abrams, Ph.D.
Paul Neustadt, is a wonderful colleague and invaluable resource for the IFS community. I have been lucky enough to collaborate with Paul since early 2020. Paul is a seasoned psychotherapist, inspiring case consultant, and a skilled writer in the field. He specializes in self led parenting, couples therapy, direct access, and more.
I found Paul’s view on “the gifts of our exiles” such a remarkable and refreshing perspective, helping us welcome and appreciate those younger sensitive parts of our systems. I strongly recommend Paul’s workshop.Anibal Henriques, Psychotherapist and Trainer, Creator and Co-host of IFSTalks podcast

A detailed description of experiential activities:
Please note that the teacher will respond to the needs of the group and because of that, the chosen activities may change
-
Personal practice (ex. journalling)
Personal practice means working on your own, usually with a piece of paper, after hearing the instructions explained by the teacher. These exercises may be various - sometimes you will be invited to communicate with your parts by journalling, sometimes you will do a drawing exercise (like mapping your parts). Other times you will get a more complex set of instructions and 10 or 15 minutes to do a piece of the process on your own.
-
Q&A sessions
Each of the workshops will have space for questions from the audience.
-
Guided meditations
Guided meditation is an internal practice that you do with closed eyes, following the teacher's voice. The teacher will invite you to sit back, relax, and focus on your inner world. You will meet your parts, talk to them, and often learn things you weren't aware of before. Guided meditation can allow you to do a significant piece of inner work.
-
Short demo sessions
These are session demonstrations in which the teacher does a live session with a volunteer. It may be a short, role-played session or a whole, longer session. Sometimes teachers show videos of sessions they recorded in the past.
-
Sharing and discussions in small groups (usually triads)
We usually do it after guided meditation and/or after personal practice. We go to breakout rooms and meet in small groups (3 or 4 participants) to share our experiences in a safe space. It is a great opportunity to meet new people and deepen the feeling of connection. This activity is optional - you can stay in the main room.
